Seminar presented at Slovak Technical University, May, 2002
Overview of geospatial data distribution over the Internet is presented along with examples of data clearinghouse, data portals, local government WebGIS, commercial on-line mapping sites, USGS seamless data distribution system, distribution of thematic data (e.g. environment), including real-time monitoring. New 3D mapping technologies are illustrated and processing techniques, including spatial interpolation are discussed. Examples are given for the spatio-temporal 3D costal mapping. Processing and examples of dynamic models created by spatial interpolation from monitoring data is illustrated using precipitation, groundwater pollution and other applications. Simulation of landscape processes is briefly described by applications to hydrologic and erosion modeling for changing landscapes. The presentation concludes with basics on Open source GIS GRASS5.
